Lee Fisher on Today’s Job Report
U.S. Senate candidate and Ohio Lt. Governor Lee Fisher released the following statement on today’s Labor Department report:
“Today’s jobs report shows what too many Ohioans already know – people are out of work and at risk of losing their homes. Washington insiders like Rob Portman believe that putting Wall Street in charge of our economy and encouraging businesses to export jobs is the answer. We tried those policies, and they failed, leaving Ohioans to clean up the mess. I believe we can rebuild Ohio’s middle class by standing up for Ohio’s small business owners, the backbone of our economy. Banks must begin loaning again to struggling small business owners so they can invest in new technology, expand their businesses and, most importantly, create jobs.”
Fisher's plan to support Ohio’s small businesses and create good paying jobs includes:
1. Creating 5 million jobs nationwide over two years with a new job creation tax credit
2. Expanding access to Small Business Administration loans and cutting red tape holding back Main Street and local entrepreneurs
3. Boosting and enforcing more transparency and accountability requirements on Wall Street banks
