Fisher Statement on Obama Administration’s Manufacturing Policy
Lt. Governor Lee Fisher made the following statement today in response to the Obama Administration's announcement of a national policy to reinvigorate American manufacturing.
"Strengthening America's manufacturing sector is critical to rebuilding our middle class and returning Ohio and the nation to prosperity. Today's announcement by the Obama Administration is a critical step forward in developing a truly comprehensive national plan that will align tax incentives, trade policies and federal funding to support the revitalization of American manufacturing. From the burgeoning clean energy sector to the auto, defense and aerospace industries, manufacturing must play a vital role for America to maintain its leading role in the world's economy.
"Despite today's announcement, American manufacturing will continue to face a competitive disadvantage until we stop rewarding companies that ship jobs overseas and enforce our trade laws that require the opening of foreign markets to U.S. goods. We simply cannot afford to return to the failed trade and economic policies of Rob Portman and George W. Bush that have devastated Ohio's manufacturing economy and led to the financial crisis."
