Fisher says more work needed on jobs creation

Democratic Senate candidate Lee Fisher likes the $15 billion Senate jobs bill, but believes much more work is needed on the issue, a spokesman said this afternoon

Fisher, Ohio lieutenant governor, "supports the bipartisan Senate jobs bill, but believes far more needs to be done to jumpstart our economy and put Ohioans back to work, including a federal job creation tax credit and a new fund to boost small business lending," said spokesman John Collins.

Fisher, who was in Cleveland today unveiling his own jobs creation plan, is vying for the Democratic nomination with Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, who also backed the job bill that gained enough votes in a procedural motion Monday night to apparently assure final passage. Republican Rob Portman, the probably GOP Senate candidate, would have voted no on the bill.

GOP Sen. George V. Voinovich of Ohio, who is retiring at the end of this year, was one of just five Republicans to vote for the bill Monday night, citing its spending on transportation.
