~Thank You~
I want to thank you for your unwavering support over the course of this long-fought election.
Thank you for making tens of thousands of calls. Thank you for knocking on doors. Thank you for writing letters to your local newspapers. And thank you for contributing what you could to support our campaign.
I believe strongly that there is only one way to run for office — to do all that you can and leave nothing on the table. With your help, we did that in this race and I'll always be proud of our effort.
During this race, I've learned that sometimes the wind is at your back, and sometimes it is in your face. This year it was in our face, and in the end we didn't come out on top. But the pain of our loss is far less than the pain felt by Ohioans I've met throughout our state who have been evicted from the American Dream through no fault of their own.
I got into public service more than three decades ago because I wanted to touch people's lives. What I didn't know at the time was how deeply their lives would touch me. While my service has often been defined by the bills I've passed or the programs I've created, what I've gotten most out of my time in public service has been a lasting appreciation of the courage of people whose hope and determination gets them through tough times.
From those individuals I've been so privileged to work with, I've learned a few things that we must all keep fighting for long after tonight.
It's not enough to get government off your back — it's just as important to get government back on your side.
It's not enough to live within our means — we must also invest in what matters.
It's not enough to do more with less — we must also do more for those who have less.
Above all, we must never forget this simple truth — America and Ohio belong to all of us, not just some of us.
Thanks again for your friendship and support. Peggy and I will always be deeply grateful.
God bless America and the state of Ohio,

Lee Fisher
